01Privacy & safety
No. Mailroom reads the envelope — sender, size, date, and attachment names, types and sizes. Never the message body, never the file contents. Everything runs on your own device: your message content, senders, subjects, and folder names never leave your device and are never sent to Mailroom. The full details are in our Privacy Notice.
The KeepSafeTM engine is designed to protect mail you're likely to want to keep. You review and confirm every cleanup before anything is removed — nothing is deleted without your confirmation. You also choose whether a cleanup goes to Trash or is deleted permanently.
If you chose delete to Trash, the mail is in your Yahoo Trash and you restore it from Yahoo Mail itself, on Yahoo's terms and timing. If you chose delete permanently, it is gone. Mailroom has no restore button, deliberately — what happens after a delete depends on things we don't control, and a button that can't keep its promise is worse than no button. Mailroom shows you what was removed; recovery, where it exists, lives in your mailbox.
On your own device. Mailroom connects directly to your mailbox from your device and does its work locally — it doesn't route your mailbox through a server to be read.
02Trial & licensing
The free trial lets you evaluate Mailroom before buying, with no card required. It runs for 14 days, or 500 MB of cleanup — whichever comes first. The app shows how much of your allowance is left as you go.
No. Mailroom plans are one-time, one-year licences, priced per mailbox-capacity tier. Nothing renews automatically. See Pricing for the tiers.
You buy inside the app, not on this website. Download Mailroom, connect your mailbox, run a free scan, and clear a first slice on the free trial. When you're ready, the purchase is initiated on your request from inside the app and opens your browser to Stripe, our secure payment provider; the licence then activates on that machine. The pricing page shows the tiers; there is no purchase flow on this site.
03Getting started
Yahoo Mail is supported today. More providers are planned — see the roadmap on the home page.
You connect using an app password from your email provider. The app walks you through where to find it and how to enter it — the steps for Yahoo are below.
Yahoo asks apps like Mailroom to use a separate app password, so Mailroom never sees your real Yahoo password. It takes a minute:
1. Sign in to Yahoo Account Security (login.yahoo.com/myaccount/security).
2. Choose Generate app password (it may be listed as App passwords), name it “Mailroom” and generate it.
3. Copy the 16-character password and paste it into Mailroom when it asks. Mailroom keeps it in your computer's own credential store.
Mailroom's connect screen opens the right Yahoo page for you. If Yahoo says app passwords can't be generated right now, turning on 2-step verification for your Yahoo account usually unlocks it. You can delete the app password in Yahoo at any time, which disconnects Mailroom.

Mailroom is a desktop app for Windows and Linux. You download and install it, then connect your mailbox.
That is expected for a new publisher. Windows shows “Windows protected your PC” because SmartScreen trusts publishers by reputation, and a new one earns that only as installs accumulate. Every Mailroom release is code-signed with a standard OV certificate issued to Mailroom-LTD, so the permission prompt names us as the publisher; the warning is about how few machines have seen the file, not about anything found inside it. The simplest way to avoid it is to install from the Microsoft Store. If you used the direct download and the publisher shown is Mailroom-LTD, click More info, then Run anyway. The warning fades as more people install Mailroom.
Don't run the file, and don't turn your antivirus off — we will never ask you to.
1. Install from the Microsoft Store instead. It is the route we recommend on Windows: Microsoft checks Store builds before listing them, and the Store keeps Mailroom updated. The download page links to it.
2. Tell us about the detection. Email support@mailroomclean.com with the name Windows Security shows (Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history) and the version you downloaded. We check every report against that release and submit the file to Microsoft for analysis, then reply with what we found.
What we can say about every release: it is code-signed by Mailroom-LTD, and the download page lists each file's SHA-256 hash. A matching hash proves the file is the one we published — on its own it does not prove a detection is wrong, which is why we look into each report rather than tell you to ignore it.

04Using Mailroom
Because the mail is almost certainly still sitting in your Yahoo Trash.
When Mailroom asks where a cleanup should go, the default is Move to Trash — the safer choice, because you can still put anything back. But Yahoo keeps counting messages in Trash against your storage until the Trash is emptied, so the meter does not move straight away. Mailroom deliberately does not empty your Trash for you: it only ever touches the mail you reviewed.
To see the space come back now, open Yahoo Mail, find Trash in the folder list on the left, use its Empty Trash control (it appears when you hover over the folder), and confirm. Yahoo also empties Trash on its own after a while, and its storage meter can take a few minutes to catch up — if nothing has changed, refresh the page and look again.
If you would rather skip the Trash step next time, choose Permanent delete when Mailroom asks. It cannot be undone — which is exactly why it is not the default.

You can open the app and review your last scan offline. Running a new scan or a cleanup needs an internet connection — both to reach your mailbox over IMAP and to validate your licence.
Mailroom checks for updates and, when one is available, opens the download in your browser. You install the update yourself — the app never replaces itself silently.
Saving your password is optional. If you do, it's stored in your operating system's secure credential store, encrypted by the OS and kept local to your device. It's never sent to Mailroom.
